Realm of Stalactites
The Feengrotten contain delicate dripstone formations that can be damaged by even the slightest touch. Stalactites hang down from the ceiling, while stalagmites grow up from the ground and, over time, can join with them to form a single column.

The dripstones in the Feengrotten are filigree and extremely sensitive. Even the touch of a finger is enough to permanently damage their fragile beauty. At this station, you can observe their fine structure up close—inside the caves, this is only possible from a distance for conservation reasons.
How large a stalactite can become is ultimately limited by its own weight. If it becomes too heavy, it breaks off from the ceiling. Stalagmites, on the other hand, grow upwards from the floor. They are usually significantly stronger and more stable than stalactites. When the two finally meet, a continuous column is formed.
A simple mnemonic helps to distinguish between the two forms: Stalagmites might (might) reach the ceiling. Stalactites, however, must hold on tight (tight) so they do not fall down.
